What is emergency management?

Emergency management is defined by Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) and Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) as the process of strategically handling extreme situations and/or hazards, and above all else keeping people safe. Successful emergency management requires thorough planning well before any emergency occurs. The actions and decisions made in the middle of an emergency should be the result of training, planning, and regular exercises.
