What is the Hill-Burton Act?

The U.S. Congress passed the Hill-Burton Act to stimulate the construction of new hospitals in underserved areas. In 1946, the act provided funding and the result was the construction of numerous hospitals in the 1950s and 1960s. The Act also provided standards to guide the design and construction of hospitals.
